Official access gives you rules to follow, not protection from them.
Using the official WhatsApp Business Platform means your messages go through Meta’s supported interface under Meta’s terms and WhatsApp’s Business Messaging Policy. It lets you automate replies, use approved message templates and connect your systems. It does not let you message people who have not opted in, send free-form messages outside the 24-hour customer service window, or avoid quality limits and enforcement. No provider’s status guarantees that an account will never be restricted.

What it permits
Within the policy, a business can reply automatically to customers, hand conversations to staff, send approved templates for updates such as booking confirmations, and connect the conversation to its own systems. Automation is allowed, but the policy also requires prompt, clear and direct ways for customers to reach a person, such as a human agent, phone, email or support form.
Official platform vs unofficial tools
Most banned business numbers come from unofficial routes: modified WhatsApp apps, bulk-sending tools and scripts that automate WhatsApp Web. These break WhatsApp’s terms, so the number can be blocked without warning. The official platform is the supported way to automate, so using it removes that cause. HumAI is a Meta Tech Provider and builds only on the official platform.
- Official: WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) under Meta’s terms
- Unofficial: modified apps, bulk senders, WhatsApp Web automation
- Official access removes the tool risk, not the policy rules
Opt-in comes first
You may message someone only after they have given you their number and agreed to receive messages from your business. The opt-in must name your business and make clear what the person is agreeing to. You choose how to collect it — website, form, in person — and you must honour opt-out requests. Meta recommends separate opt-ins for different kinds of messages.
The 24-hour customer service window
When a customer messages or calls you, a 24-hour customer service window opens. Inside it you can reply freely. Outside it, you can only send approved message templates, which Meta reviews and categorises as marketing, utility or authentication. Templates can be paused or disabled if people give negative feedback.
Quality and messaging limits
Meta limits how many people a business can start conversations with outside a service window in a rolling 24 hours. New business portfolios start low and can scale as quality and verification allow. Customers can block or report a business; recurring negative feedback can lower template status and slow growth.
- Opted-in contacts only
- Relevant, expected messages
- Easy opt-out
- A clear way to reach a person
Account ownership
Ask, in writing, whose Meta business portfolio holds the WhatsApp Business Account and phone number, who has admin access, who pays Meta’s charges, and what happens to the number and approved templates if you change provider. Your proposal should set this out before launch along with scope, term, included usage, support and exit arrangements.
What official access does not guarantee
Meta’s terms allow it to suspend or limit access for policy breaches, security or legal reasons, and to change or discontinue features. Those terms also restrict companies whose core product is a general-purpose AI assistant from using the platform for that purpose; customer service for a business’s own customers is a different use, but Meta interprets its own terms. A provider can help you follow the rules; it cannot promise immunity from them.
